What's On Our iPad? Articulation Station

Throughout our Hard Candy Case giveaway, I'll be posting about our favorite apps we use on our iPad.  Some are specifically for speech therapy for my daughter who has Apraxia and some are educational.

Articulation Station (Pro)
Little Bee Speech

Articulation Station is an app dedicated to helping kids practice their speech therapy at home or in a professional setting.

I've tried the lite version & the pro version.  Here are the main differences I noticed between the two.

Lite:
You get one sound (the P sound), then you purchase each additional sound after that.  Which is nice if you have a smaller budget & you can focus on the sounds you are currently working on.

Pro:
You get all of the sounds available, plus if you are eventually planning on buying all of the sounds, this bundle saves you money in the long run.
You can add your own images... our favorite part about the app!

This app had great, clean images and a good variety of words (easy & medium... not very many words that were too hard). They have options for 22 sounds.  Most have option of beginning sound, medial sound or end sound, which I love.

They have a matching game, a story game, word flash cards, & lots more!  Plenty to keep your child engaged & learning.

I do wish they had a few more words per sound, but it certainly made it more fun that we could add our own images.  Also, they have so many different activities that your child is still having fun, even if it is the same handful of images, they are used in different ways so it works out well.

My favorite part:
When I found out about that you could add custom images, I was really excited.  I emailed everyone in our extended family & added their pictures.  Paige loves going through the family list & I love that she is getting more practice saying everyone's names.  I haven't seen this in any other speech therapy app yet.

Paige's favorite part:
Paige's favorite part about it is the stories, she loves repeating the stories.  One of the level 2 stories says that "grandpa got applesauce all over his lips" & she thinks that's hilarious.  :)

Paige loves this app, it's one of her favorites on our iPad.  We both would recommend it to others wanting to encourage speech development for their children of any ability!

Heidi Hanks, M.S.CCC-SLP, is the creator of the beautiful & fun app.  According to their website, her goal was to create an app that was "user friendly and pretty to look at but our main goal is to provide parents, SLPs and other educators wonderful tools that assist their kids in achieving their speech therapy goals."   Heidi's goals were achieved with this app!

Heidi also is the creator of Mommy Speech Therapy where they have some great worksheets & tips that you might enjoy!  I have personally used their worksheets for at home speech therapy with Paige.

I heard a rumor that big changes are coming for this app... I was told that their Facebook page would give you the most updated information, so be sure to stalk them, I mean... like them!  :)

  1. I love articulation station! As an SLP I have to say that it is the best articulation app out there. And I met Heidi the developer at a conference and she is awesome! She is an SLP who works with kids, so no wonder she designed such a great app :)
We have some Sandra Boynton books that I love on our iPad.

  2. I usually take mobile apps from Jumpstart cause I trust them to know their education and are actually good designers. I'm going to download these apps too.
