That is a touching story. I, too, have found myself seeming selfish when donating toys. I get myself emotionally attached to them and it's hard for me to let go of ones my daughter has wanted to donate. I have to remind myself that other children and their parents haven't had the opportunity to get emotionally attached to toys when they have nothing. I then realize how lucky I am and that her toys are just "things". We've donated hundreds of toys during her life and I love that she gets so enthusiastic about it.
