Safe Sleeping Practices, SleepSack Review & Giveaway

Let me tell you a little story.

My oldest daughter was born almost 4 years ago.  We had a HALO SleepSack for her when she was younger so she could stay swaddled (thank heaven for their designs with Velcro... she was Houdini and could get out of everything else).  We called it her straight jacket, but don't let that name fool you, we loved it!  I'll do anything (within reason of course) to help my babies get better sleep and spoiler alert: because of this it's always my go-to baby shower gift!  It is by far my must-have item to have on stock for myself or for any new mom.

But once she grew out of it, we didn't buy her a new one & just (tried) to dress her appropriately at night.  Ever since then, my husband & I would "discuss" what the temperature should be.

Every. Single. Night.

We always had a hard time deciding what to put the thermostat to because we didn't want our sweet baby to get cold, but we didn't want to be sweating all night either.  THEN we had another baby and it just got even more complicated from there because one could keep a blanket on and one couldn't.

We recently got another HALO SleepSack for my 10 month old & can I just tell you how much I love not having to worry about the temperature at night?!

I love that my baby can be wearing a blanket (safe & comfy), my toddler can be tucked in (safe & comfy) and my husband & me?  Well... we're all tucked in safe & comfy, too!

No joke, this is the first time in 4 years that I finally feel like we've figured out this whole temperature thing.

I'm pretty sure Lindsey likes it, too!

October is SIDS Awareness Month, & HALO is raising awareness.

During the month of October, HALO will donate $1 to SIDS Awareness for every new Facebook “like”.

Did you know that 80-90% of SIDS-related deaths are due to unsafe sleep practices?

Safe Sleep Practices:

ALWAYS...
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
NEVER...
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

HALO Innovation’s SleepSack® wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital nurseries and parents alike. In fact, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative. HALO Innovations also offers free Safe

  1. We use a portable space heater in the baby's room. It is temperature controlled, so it will keep the room at the set temperature all night long.
